SEO for Dog and Cat Resorts & Hotels

Large Hope Blog SEO for Pet hotels resorts boarding kennels

You may have the best pet resort in your area, but can people find you online? How do you currently get business, and do you want more?

Our list of 7 SEO tips for pet hotels will help customers find you online.

What exactly is SEO? Why is it important for your Pet Hotel?

Effective SEO means:

  • you appear in the first 3 positions in Google when someone searches with a relevant keyword
  • people in your local area will contact you after searching online
  • your business financially supports you and your family
  • you can employ staff and take holidays
  • you can franchise

Most SEO happens in the code of the website, which is not seen by the website visitor. Unless you are very tech-savvy, it is best to get a professional SEO consultant or agency to do your SEO for you.

7 SEO tips for Pet Boarding Kennels, Resorts & Hotels

1. Make sure your address and main city/town are in the footer of your website

Go and check your website right now. In most cases the address will be on the contact us page. But is your address in the footer of the website? People usually scroll up and down a page and want to be able to find the address easily – no matter which page they are on. Including it in the footer also means that Google can rank every single page on your website for that location.

2. List the nearest suburbs in the footer

If you list the nearest suburbs in the footer, Google can also rank your site if anyone is searching for a pet hotel in any suburbs nearby. Put a sentence in the footer that says “Locations near us -” and then list them. Depending on how long the names are, you can usually add 10 to 20 suburbs to the footer.

3. NAP on Contact Us page

Make sure you have your business name, address and phone number on the contact us page of your website. I often find that people don’t have their business name on the contact us page. This is critical so that Google can use it to verify that you are the same business that is listed in business directories and in the Google Business Profile.

4. Create an Apple, Bing, and Google Maps listing

Google Business Profile is the new name – the directory has gone by many names in the past (Google My Business, Google Places). This is where you need to list yourself to make sure that you come up in Google Maps.

Apple has its own register for Apple Places, which shows up on its maps. Apple car play enables people to ask Siri to take them to an address, so you want to make sure you are on there too. Often you can import your verified Google profile.

Bing has its own Places and you can register for Bing here. You may be able to import your verified Google profile.

5. Have a separate page for each service

Google wants to take people to a page on your website that is highly specific to the search that they just did. So if someone searches for “dog kennels” or “dog hotel” Google wants to take them to a page that is just about dog kennels or hotels. Google doesn’t want to take them to a general page that lists a whole range of services. So if you offer dog boarding and cat boarding and doggy day care then you would need three service pages, one for each service. You also want to have links to these main service pages in the footer.

Each page will have a title and an SEO title. The SEO title is in the code and you can Google search to find where it is in your website platform or theme. The SEO title can only be a certain length. Moz has a tool to help. An ideal SEO title will be something like “Dog Hotel Resort Mooloolaba – Big Boarding Kennels” It includes all the keywords to help people who live in Mooloolaba or go on holidays in Mooloolaba find you online.

The SEO titles are critical, so if you need help, book a free 15min zoom or phone call with me. If it takes longer, we can book a longer paid call.

6. Create social media accounts and business directory listings

Social Media

Create a business profile on the 6 main social media accounts. These sites are very high authority and having a profile with a link to your website is very powerful. You can share pictures on all these accounts and everyone loves cat and dog pictures, so you will have plenty to post. On each dog and cat picture, you can add a link to your website in the description. This helps SEO and helps people who want to check you out.

Business Directories

Listing yourself on business directories helps Google know you are a real business. These listings are very powerful. They take time to have an impact, though. If you create a listing today, it may be three or four months before it has an impact on your rankings.

It can also be very time-consuming to do these listings. They are a big part of the ongoing SEO that we do for our clients in order to help them continue to climb in the rankings and outpace their competitors. I highly recommend doing these.

We have a list here that you can start with. Directories come and go all the time, so some may no longer exist. This is another reason it’s an ongoing task to create these listings.

7. Start blogging

Blogging is great for a few reasons:

1. It adds extra content to your website and makes you an authority on pets and animals
2. It allows you to create more internal links to your main service pages
3. You can share links to your blogs on social media, giving you something to add to those social media accounts and build a following
