How to Tell if My WordPress Blog Comment is Spam and What is the Benefit Anyway

How to tell if a Blog Comment is Spam

If you are reading this it is because you are not sure if the comment is spam or not.
Shouldn’t it be easy to tell? Well in some cases it really isn’t.

1st – Is it a foreign language or poor English?

If it is a foreign language or poor English it is most likely spam.

Make sure you read the comment and ask yourself if they could have put this comment on any site.
They often say things that are very generic, like this is great and helpful.

You can either trash it or report it as spam. Or you can remove things from the comment or edit it and publish it.

2nd – Look at the email address

If it is Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo then be suspicious

3rd – Have they put a link in the comment itself or in the email or URL section.

Is this link helpful to your readers?

Blog comment with url

If it is a competitor website you may not want to link to their website. Or it may be a business that is completely irrelevant to yours and therefore not useful to your readers.

If someone makes a good comment but the URL is irrelevant then when you go into the comments section you can remove the URL and then approve the comment.

Otherwise if its a good comment and good URL you can just approve as is.

What is the Benefit of Comments

Comments add extra content to your blog posts. So if what they say is relevant it can help you rank in Google.
If you are getting lots of comments it attracts more people to your website who also make comments.
